Basic Website Design, Setup and Maintenance

Unless otherwise noted, all work will be done at our standard design rate of $60/hour.

What do you need to set up a website from scratch?

1. Domain name:

   (e.g. www.yournamehere.com). If you have one, we can administer it for you, making sure that it points to the right place and that *you* maintain ownership. If you don't have one, we can help you find one or a set of related names (as we have registered both datagnostics.com and datagnostic.com for ourselves), register them, and administer them for $15/name/year.

2. Web host:

   a reliable company in charge of the computers on which your site is located. We can work with whatever hosting you already have or we can find hosting for you. Site administration fees start at $25/month (depending on your site's size, traffic, and programming needs).

3. Logo:

   You will need a logo image in .jpg or .gif format. We can make an image from your existing letterhead or we can design a logo for you.

4. Site layout:

   This involves determining what web pages you need and deciding how the pages will look. We will talk to you about your needs and then prepare an outline of the web site structure and page mockups.

5. Keywords

   : in order for visitors to find your website, search engine optimization needs to begin before the actual copy is written. We will work with you to choose a first set of keywords, optimized for your particular industry and business niche.

6. Copy

   -- the text on the pages. You can write this yourself or we can write it for you at our standard design rate.

7. Catalog database:

   If your site is for displaying or selling things, you will need a database to keep track of items, prices, images, inventory, etc. We can build a database for you or use your existing one. Our standard rate for custom database design and programming is $110/hour.

8. Catalog images:

   You will need at least one large image (.jpg or .gif) of every item in your catalog, and each image needs a small or "thumbnail" version. You can give us images plus thumbnails or we can make thumbnails from your images. If needed, photography services can be provided for $300/day plus expenses.

9. Other images:

   We can use other types of images on your website. We can use images that you give us as computer files, scan in your pictures, and/or create original drawings and animations, all at our standard design rate. We can also come to you and photograph your staff, products, location, etc., for $300/day plus expenses.

10. Shopping cart:

    We can connect you to a shopping cart site and setup a secure payment system (credit cards, PayPal, etc.) to handle your customer orders.

11. Search engine registration:

    We will register your site with the major free search engines -- currently Google, Lycos, and AltaVista -- as a standard service. If your site is personal or non-profit, we register it with Yahoo for free. We will also register you with paid search engines -- Yahoo's Business directory, Ask Jeeves, InSite, etc. -- if you choose.
